Most MRIs need very little preparation. A few simple steps help your visit go smoothly.
Follow any instructions from your doctor about food, drink, or medicines.

What happens during the MRI
When you arrive, a team member will review a short safety form with you. Then the technologist will bring you to the scan room.
You will lie on a padded table that slides into the scanner. The machine makes loud tapping and knocking sounds, so you will get earplugs or headphones. The technologist steps into the next room but can see you, hear you, and talk with you the whole time.

After your MRI
Most people can go back to their normal day right away unless their doctor says otherwise. A board-certified radiologist reviews your images and writes a report.
