ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

If you are new to the idea of getting an MRI somewhere other than the hospital, you're   not alone. But we've got you taken care of. Check out some of our frequently asked   questions below. Got another question? No problem! Click below and contact us!

What is MRI and how does it work?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). MRI is a test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body. In many cases, MRI gives us different information about structures in the body than can be seen with an X-ray, ultrasound, or computed tomography (CT) scan. MRI also may show problems that cannot be seen with other imaging methods.

What do I need to prepare for an MRI?

On the day of the exam please eat normally and take all regular medications unless otherwise directed by your physician. When you arrive you will be asked to review your registration paperwork filled out by our staff. In order to complete your registration we must make a copy of your picture ID as well as your insurance card. The Millenium MRI facility has storage lockers so you will have a place to store personal belongings during the exam.

What can I expect regarding the MRI procedure?

Upon completion of the registration process, a certified MRI technican will ask you to remove all metallic items. The technican will assist you onto the scanning table. You will lie on  your back, relaxed, with your head on a pillow and the patient table will then slide very smoothly into position. You can expect the exam to last 30-45 minutes. After the exam, the techinican will lead you back to the dressing room where you can unlock your personal belongings. Results of the scan are provided to your doctor within 24 hours.

I need to schedule an MRI...What do I need to do?

The first step to scheduling a MRI with us is contacting your doctor, nurse practioner, or chiropractor and asking for a MRI referral. We must have a referral from either a doctor, chiropractor, or nurse practioner to legally preform your scan. After you have either called your physician or had a doctor visit, and they approve the MRI, their office will fax our office a referral. From there we will contact you to schedule your appointment. We can schedule you the very same day we receive the order!

What is a pre-authorization? How do you know if I need one?

Some private insurances require their policyholders to get a pre-authorization code prior to his/her MRI. It is all dependent on your personal plan with your insurance. We can check if one is needed; but the pre-authorization code must be acquired from your referring physician's office prior to your scan. Your physician's office checks to see if you are required to have one. No action is necessary on your part.

If I want to do self-pay, and use a credit card, which ones can you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover) except American Express. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
