How to book your MRI
Booking is simple:
Using insurance? Get an order from your doctor. Ask the office to send it to Millenium MRI. Paying cash? No referral is needed, so you can skip this step.
Call the Ocala center. Call (352) 900-5501. Calling early in the day gives you the best chance at a same-day time.
Share how you will pay. We accept most insurance plans, workers' compensation, personal injury cases, and self-pay.
Answer the safety questions. Staff will ask about metal, implants, and past surgeries.
Some insurance plans need to approve an MRI before it happens. If yours does, that step can affect when you can be scanned. Staff can help you understand what is needed.
How to get ready for your scan
Most MRIs need very little preparation. A few simple steps help your visit go smoothly.
Eating and medicines
For most MRIs, you can eat and take your usual medicines. Some exams have special instructions. If you get any, follow them. See can I eat before an MRI for more.
What to wear
Wear comfortable clothes with no metal, such as zippers, snaps, buttons, or underwire. Leave jewelry, watches, and hair clips at home. You may be asked to change into a gown.
Tell us about metal in your body
The MRI uses a very strong magnet, so the team needs to know about anything metal in or on your body. Tell staff if you have:
A pacemaker, defibrillator, or other implanted device
Metal plates, screws, pins, or joint replacements
Clips from past surgery
A cochlear implant or insulin pump
Metal pieces in your eyes from past work, such as welding or grinding
Bring any device cards you have. Some people also ask about tattoos. Learn more in are MRIs safe for patients with tattoos.
What to bring
A photo ID
Your insurance card, if you are using insurance
Your doctor's order, if it was not already sent
A list of your medicines
What happens on the day of your MRI
When you arrive, staff check you in and review your safety form. Then an ARRT-certified technologist takes you to the scan room.
You lie on a padded table that slides into the scanner. The technologist may place a lightweight frame, called a coil, around the body part being scanned. It helps make the pictures clearer.
The MRI is painless, but it is loud. You will get earplugs or headphones. The technologist steps out of the room but can see you and talk with you the whole time. Your job is to stay as still as you can.
Most patients are in and out in about 35 minutes. Some exams take longer, depending on what your doctor ordered. If you feel nervous in small spaces, let the team know ahead of time. Our article on how to overcome claustrophobia during an MRI has helpful tips.
After your MRI
Unless you were given special instructions, you can go back to your normal day right away.
A board-certified radiologist reads your images and sends a report to your doctor. Results are usually sent to your referring doctor within 24 hours. Your doctor will go over the results with you and talk about next steps. If you want to understand the words in your report, see how to read your radiology report.
MRI after a car accident or work injury
If you were hurt in a car accident or on the job, your doctor may order an MRI to look for injuries to the spine, discs, joints, or soft tissue that an X-ray may not show. Millenium MRI accepts personal injury cases and workers' compensation.
When you call, let staff know if your scan is part of an injury case. Have your claim number or your attorney's contact details ready, if you have them. If you have questions about your claim, talk with your attorney. To learn more about imaging after a crash, read the importance of MRI scans after a car accident.
